The Lower Secondary 3 students of the German course warmly welcomed the new Lower Secondary 1 students with a very special tradition: the Schultüte ceremony, inspired by a beloved German custom.

The activity, part of the Welcome Project organized by Mrs. Ottavia Brian, is meant as a gesture of hospitality and good wishes for those beginning their journey in learning the German language and culture.

But what exactly is a Schultüte?
In Germany, it’s a large, decorated cardboard cone filled with sweets, small gifts, and school supplies, traditionally given to children on their very first day of school. It’s a way to make that important beginning just a little bit sweeter — in every sense!

At our school, this tradition has been adapted and reimagined by the older students, who prepare and fill the cones themselves before presenting them to the newcomers. It’s a symbolic gesture that connects past and present, language and culture, sharing and curiosity.

A small gift that carries a big message: learning a new language also means opening yourself to a different world — one made of gestures, traditions, and connections that bring people together. The Schultüte perfectly embodies this spirit: colorful, sweet, and full of enthusiasm for the year ahead.
