An educational initiative combining artistic exploration, technical skill, and personal expression.

Students recently had the opportunity to participate in the Ceramics Workshop during art classes. The activity, led by Professor Ceschin in collaboration with ceramist Sara Dall’Antonia, provided students with direct experience in working with clay, a versatile and ancient material that has been used for millennia to create both functional and decorative objects.

Throughout the workshop, students explored a variety of modeling techniques, including shaping, molding, and detailing, while experimenting freely with the material. This hands-on approach enabled them to develop both technical proficiency and creative expression, discovering how an idea can gradually transform into a tangible object. The completed works were later fired in the ceramist’s kiln and returned to the students, providing them with a lasting physical reminder of their creative efforts.

The workshop was designed not only to enhance manual dexterity but also to stimulate imagination, patience, and problem-solving skills. Students learned the importance of careful planning, attention to detail, and the value of persistence, all while collaborating and sharing insights with their peers. By engaging in this process, they gained a deeper appreciation of craftsmanship and the artistic process, understanding that creativity often requires both inspiration and discipline.

In addition, the workshop encouraged reflection on the relationship between material, form, and personal expression, giving students the opportunity to convey emotions, ideas, and individual identity through their creations. The experience fostered a sense of accomplishment and pride, as each participant was able to see their concept take shape in a concrete form.

Each piece created told a small personal story, composed of imagination, material, and form, serving as a tangible testament to the beauty of creating with one’s own hands.
