Our lower secondary school hosted a special event that inspired and engaged students in the world of marine sustainability. The highlight of the event was Valentina Lovat, a marine scientist whose career combines a passion for the ocean with a strong commitment to environmental protection.
Graduated in Marine Sciences from the University of Milano-Bicocca and the University of the Maldives, Valentina furthered her education with a specialization in sustainability and innovation at the EADA Business School in Barcelona. Her experience is enriched by over five years of collaboration with UNESCO, where she contributed to global projects aimed at protecting marine ecosystems.
During the session, students had the opportunity to explore the vast possibilities offered by the ocean and to understand the challenges that lie ahead in the coming years. From the enhancement of marine ecosystems and biodiversity, Valentina guided the students in discovering the crucial role that knowledge and protection of the oceans play for our future.
The discussion also covered highly relevant topics, including ocean warming, acidification, plastic pollution, and noise pollution—all issues that demand awareness and concrete actions to address the climate crisis. It was a unique opportunity for students to engage with a scientist actively involved in ocean research and conservation, and to understand how passion, knowledge, and innovation can become concrete tools for building a more sustainable future.
