Our school in Rosà had the pleasure of hosting Luigi Dal Cin, one of the most acclaimed Italian authors in the field of children’s and young adult literature. With over 100 published books translated into 14 languages, Dal Cin has received numerous awards, including the Andersen Prize and the Troisi Prize.

The author’s workshops are truly theatrical events, in which he actively engages students, stimulating their creativity and passion for reading. These moments not only promote literacy but also offer an opportunity to explore narrative techniques and the art of writing.

This is exactly what happened with our Lower Secondary School students. The session began with a very entertaining first part, which immediately captured everyone’s attention, before moving on, through the story of a real-life experience of the author, to more serious and important topics such as inclusion and disability. The students participated actively, asking questions and sparking deep reflections.

The importance of reading and writing as tools capable of generating emotions—and powerful enough to change the world—was also emphasized. A strong message that the students will carry with them: reading and writing are not just academic tools but means to understand, express themselves, and make a difference.

This initiative stems from the desire to guide students on a journey of self-awareness, helping them recognize emotions, strengths, and vulnerabilities, and to develop the ability to relate to others in an authentic and empathetic way.

The session concluded with a brief presentation of his book Sulla porta del mondo, which tackles the theme of immigration by telling stories of journeys and new beginnings. It was a meaningful opportunity to bring to the forefront topics of great relevance and value for the students: hospitality, respect, inclusion, and active citizenship.
