The school has launched the project “You Are What You Eat” for Reception and Primary School students, with the goal of promoting conscious and sustainable eating habits.
The program began during the Primary School Assembly with the presentation of the results of a survey on students’ eating habits. The data collected showed that many children already have good eating habits, but they often prefer sugary snacks, while fruits and vegetables are less present in their daily diet. This analysis allowed teachers and students to discuss actions to take in order to discover and try new foods that are both healthy and tasty.
Starting this week, the Smiley Snack has been introduced: a moment dedicated to morning playtime. Every Tuesday and Thursday, students and teachers bring balanced snacks—fruits, vegetables, yogurt, cereals, or nuts—turning snack time into an educational opportunity for sharing and learning.
The project also includes practical and hands-on activities that allow students to deepen their understanding of foods in real-life contexts:
- Science Lab: experiments to observe the content of sugars, fats, and fibers in different foods.
- School Garden and Vegetables Garden: spaces dedicated to growing and directly observing fruits, vegetables, and herbs.
- School Canteen: a real-life setting where students can observe daily food choices and experiment with healthier alternatives.
The goal of the entire project is to help children develop the ability to make informed food choices, highlighting the connection between nutrition, health, and environmental sustainability. Through small daily actions, students learn that eating well means feeling better and building well-being for themselves and others.
