Dear Parents,

As mentioned during our beginning-of-year meeting, thanks to our membership of Nord Anglia Education (NAE), our school has the opportunity to take part in a wide range of international initiatives through Global Campus, the platform that connects students from Nord Anglia schools around the world.

As part of this programme, this year our school will place a particular focus on STEAM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics), also thanks to the partnership between Nord Anglia Education and MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). This partnership gives our students the opportunity to engage with innovative activities, projects and approaches developed in collaboration with one of the world’s leading institutions in technology and innovation.

The first MIT Challenge of the year, Keeping a Secret, has now begun. As part of this journey, our Lower Secondary 1 students took part in the Curiosity Correspondent “Secret Message” activity, exploring how information can be hidden, revealed and protected.

Each student wrote a secret fact about themselves using invisible ink. The messages were then mixed up and randomly distributed among the students. Following a specific procedure, they revealed the hidden messages and tried to guess which classmate had written each one.

The activity encouraged students to reflect on how information can be kept secret and, importantly, on the difference between simply hiding information and actually protecting it.

At the end of the activity, students completed an Exit Ticket, reflecting on their experience and on how the concepts they explored could be applied throughout the “Keeping a Secret” MIT Challenge.

An engaging activity that combined curiosity, collaboration and problem-solving, introducing students to concepts related to technology and information protection in a practical and enjoyable way.
